How do I get my hair back to its natural color?

My natural hair color is medium brown. Last year, I went to my hair dresser and colored it red for a drastic change. Since then, I've used color out of a box and I've been back to my stylist once. I am trying to get it back to brown, but every color that I use or my stylist uses goes back to red after a few weeks.I don't want to keep coloring it every few weeks. She told me that the only way to get it back to its natural color is to bleach it and then color it. Is this the only way besides letting it grow and cutting it? My hair is pretty long and I don't want to cut it and it looks really bad letting it grow on its own. Is the bleaching and coloring something I can do on my own or should I go to a stylist? Is there anything that will just take all of the color out and take it back to its natural color? Thanks.

There are products that can remove color molecules, however, it can be very damaging to your hair. It sounds as though your stylist is using demi or semi-permanant hair color which will eventually fade. She/He may need to use something that will last longer if you are happy with the outcome of the color immediately after they have colored your hair. Red is one of those colors that is VERY difficult to cover or "bleach" out. My reccommendation would be to have a consultation with a very experienced colorist... might be worth paying the big bucks.

Good Luck!!!!

The bad thing about bleaching and coloring is that the color will fade too...so you will have to be very careful and keep on coloring it until your hair grows out long enough that the bleached part is gone...and please go to a stylist to get your hair bleached...

Sweetie? Your question hit home with me because I had exactly the same problem. I used that Loreal Feria and I looked like a stop sign. It took me dying it the darkest brown I could find to get it back to a very dark brown, which is my natural color. It has taken a few times and guess what, it is now a bit darker than my natural color but it sure is better than having all that red. Try the darkest brown you can find but first, go to your local hair place and have a deep conditioning done. It doesn't cost that much and your hair will feel so wonderful and it will be free of all the waxes, etc.....that we put on our hair every time we wash it with store bought shampoos. Then dye it the darkest brown you can find. I'm pretty sure the results will look awesome on you. I know you are very pretty because you care about your appearance enough to post on here and ask. Good luck Sweetie. I hope you take my advice and try it out. :)

You need to go to a more experienced stylist; you need restorative filler and then color. It will cost, but only way to guarentee natural color.

Wow sounds like your trying to acheive what i just did today with my stylist!!...i made the mistake of dying my hair really dark like 2 weeks ago, i freaked out and wanted my blonde back...first a hair dresser attemped just to put blonde highlights in it and that didn't go so well...but i found this amzing hair dresser that used this stuff on my hair that toned down the darkness in my hair...then she applied a semipermanent blonde color to my hair to tone down the darkness as well and also to take out some of the redness in the hair (the dark color i chose was an auburn/brownish color) and now my hair is pretty much back to my natural dirty blonde color with the highlights that the other hairdresser put in the week before! I will be going back in another week or two just to put more highlights in my hair (i want to be very blonde). You may need to call around a bit and even go into some places to speak with them and find out if they can help you...one place didn't think i could tone it down while the place i ended up going to was able to and it looks great now!

**Good luck, hope this was of some help!
